This page explains what happens to the information you give AI Academy by Chris Parsons, and your rights over it. The short version: we use your answers to measure the training programme your employer arranged. Your answers are not anonymous: your employer can see your individual answers, with your name. Nothing in a survey is anonymous unless it is clearly marked as anonymous. We never sell your data, and we never use it for advertising. The only exception is Chris's newsletter, and you get that only if you tick a box to ask for it.
Who we are
AI Academy by Chris Parsons is run by chrismdp ltd, Chris Parsons's company. When we say "we" or "us", we mean chrismdp ltd. It is the data controller for the personal data on this page. chrismdp ltd is a private limited company registered in England and Wales, company number 16198002, with its registered office at 16 Broad Street, Eye, Suffolk, IP23 7AF, United Kingdom. You can write to us about anything on this page at support@chrismdp.com.
What we collect
- Your email address and name. These come from the list of people taking part in your programme. If you sign in with Google, Google also gives us your name, email address and profile picture. If you sign in with a one-time code, we only receive your email address.
- Your survey answers, including anything you write in the free-text boxes, and when you started and submitted each survey.
- When you sign in. Our sign-in service records the time of each sign-in.
- Whether we emailed you. We record whether each invitation was sent, not what it said. To stop sign-in codes being misused, we count how many codes each address asks for each day. For that count we store a scrambled form of the address, not the address itself.
- Your certificate. When you finish the final survey, we make a certificate with your name and the name of your programme. Anyone with its link can view it, so share the link only with people you want to see it.
Analytics and the AI playground
We use PostHog, hosted in the EU, to count a few things: that a page loaded, that someone signed in and whether they used Google or an email code, and that someone reached the page that asks them to come back later. PostHog never receives your answers, your email address, your name or the address of the page you are on. We have switched off its click tracking and its session recording. PostHog keeps a random identifier in your browser so it can tell one visit from another.
Some sessions use an AI playground, where you type a question and compare answers from three AI models. We send your question to the models through a service called OpenRouter, and we do not store the question or the answers. We ask OpenRouter to use only model providers that say they do not keep what is sent to them. Even so, please do not type personal details or anything confidential about your employer.
Why we use it
- To compare your answers from before the course with your answers from after it. This is why you sign in: it lets us match your two sets of answers.
- To report to your employer, including each person's answers.
- To send you invitations and sign-in codes by email.
- To help you if something goes wrong with your account.
- Only if you ask, by ticking the box after a survey: to add you to Chris's newsletter. You can unsubscribe from any newsletter email.
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), our lawful basis is legitimate interests: running the training programme your employer arranged for you, and measuring whether it helped. For the newsletter, our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.
Who can see your answers
- Chris Parsons can read individual answers, including what you write in the free-text boxes. So can the developer who builds and maintains the platform for him.
- Your employer can see your individual answers, including what you write in the free-text boxes, with your name. Your answers are not anonymous unless a question is clearly marked as anonymous.
- Other participants cannot see your answers.
We never sell your data. We never use it for advertising.
Services that handle your data
- Supabase stores the database, including your answers, and runs sign-in.
- Cloudflare hosts the site and sends our emails. It keeps short technical logs of requests so it can run and protect the service.
- Google signs you in, if you choose to sign in with Google.
- PostHog counts usage, as described above. Its data is held in the EU.
- OpenRouter passes questions typed into the AI playground to the AI models, and passes their answers back.
- Kit runs Chris's newsletter. The newsletter is optional: we pass Kit your email address and first name only if you tick the box to join it after finishing a survey. AI Academy by Chris Parsons does not record that choice, and it does not form part of the data sent to your employer.
Some of these services are run by companies in the United States, so your data may be stored or processed outside the UK. You can ask us which safeguards apply.
How long we keep it
We keep your answers for 12 months after the final survey of your programme closes. Then we delete them, together with your name, your email address and the rest of your record. Your certificate link stops working at the same time.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to support@chrismdp.com. UK GDPR gives you these rights, and some others: you can also ask us to limit how we use your data, or object to how we use it. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. chrismdp ltd is registered with the ICO under number ZB967439. We would like the chance to help first, but you can go to the ICO at any time.
How we protect it
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Each participant can reach only their own answers, and each group is kept separate from every other group.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how your answers are used, we will tell you before it applies. Questions? Write to support@chrismdp.com.
